Crynodeb

We are looking for an experienced researcher in the area of chronic pain, with a good grasp of setting up studies in health care, including application for research ethical approval, publication record, and leadership. A PhD in a health-related discipline is essential; a PhD in Psychology would be an advantage, and understanding of qualitative approaches will be useful. You will have excellent people skills, an ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, and experience of working independently on design and execution of research.

Writing skills are essential, and you will pay meticulous attention to detail in preparing study protocols and reports. You will be able to organise your own activities to deadline and quality standards to ensure the efficient and timely completion of the study.

The Research Fellow will join a diverse team of clinicians and researchers to explore the needs of people in the Black community in Southampton who are living with chronic pain. This project is funded by the charity Versus Arthritis and aims to address inequalities in the health system and in traditional research.

The position is based in the School of Psychology, which is located at the Highfield Campus of the University of Southampton, but a large part of the research will take place in the community, and hybrid working is encouraged.

The post is offered full-time or part-time, minimum 0.6 FTE, with a starting date around September.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof. Tamar Pincus (t.pincus@soton.ac.uk).

We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equality of opportunity. We select candidates based on merit and ability and aspire to thrive in the diversity of our workforce. We welcome applications from all candidates with an interest in the role and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment.

As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.

Apply by 11.59 pm GMT on the closing date. For assistance contact Recruitment on +44(0)2380 592750 or recruitment@soton.ac.uk quoting the job number.
