Summary
As part of the Estates team, you will report to the Site Manager and contribute towards providing a well-maintained, safe, clean and secure environment for staff, students and visitors.
Previous supervisory experience is essential. More important is a flexible and pro-active approach, combined with good organisational and communication skills. You will also need to be able to relate well to students, other staff and visitors.
Previous experience in a similar role and/or environment is required, though training will be given. More important is a flexible and responsive approach which is a key requirement for this kind of varied and practical role.
You will need to have the basic technical skills to be able to carry out minor repairs and maintenance, along with the willingness and ability to carry out a variety of manual tasks, such as collecting litter, setting out rooms, and caretaking/porter duties.
A commitment to team work is important, combined with the ability to work pro-actively and effectively without supervision. You will have to be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including staff, students and the general public.
Working times will be agreed based on a rota to cover the staffing requirements for the estates and cleaning teams, which is subject to review from time to time.
Relief work outside of contracted hours, to cover cleaning or estates duties, are also available.
Grade & Salary Range
The successful candidate will be appointed to scale point 6 of the College’s Support Staff pay spine, currently £24,575 p.a. for full-time. Actual salary will be prorated to contracted hours (e.g., £19,926 p.a. for 30 hrs per week).
Main Terms & Conditions
This contract is on a part time but permanent basis, for 30 hours per week, working full year and commencing as soon as the successful candidate is available following recruitment and safeguarding checks.
Core working hours will be 1.00pm to 7.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10.00am to 4.30pm on Wednesdays.
In addition to your contracted hours, you may be asked to work additional hours, as and when required, to cover periods of peak workload or the absence of other staff. All additional hours will be agreed beforehand.
Salary payments are made monthly by credit transfer on the last business banking day of the month.
Annual leave entitlement for full time equivalent is 22 days per annum in addition to public holidays, rising to 25 days after 5 years’ continuous service. Annual leave will be prorated for part time contracts.
