Summary

The postholder will assist the Technical Accounting and VAT team whose main responsibilities include the production of the Statement of Accounts, liaising with external auditors and the reconciliations of control accounts.

This post will give the successful candidate invaluable experience across the board of technical accounting and the opportunity to learn about the wider Council finances.

The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of statutory financial reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with some experience within local authority accounting.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Career Grade 7 – 10 - Senior Finance Assistant to join our Finance Service at Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The Council prides itself on supporting individuals to develop the necessary skills and competencies to progress their career. This career grade position will provide an individual with an opportunity to progress from a Senior Finance Assistant (Grade 7) to a Finance Officer (Grade 10). The successful individual will also be supported to undertake a professional accountancy qualification such as CIPFA over a 3 – 4 year period.

The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of statutory financial reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with some experience within local authority accounting.

You will be a confident communicator who is able to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong excel skills are essential as well as an ability to analyse data and undertake problem solving tasks. We are looking for someone who can work under pressure and help support the team to deliver against key objectives and deadlines.
The role is full time; 37 hours per week

Location: Agile Worker – working from home with occasional travel to workspaces across the Borough of Cheshire West and Chester.
