JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF
Personal assistant required for a 14 year old girl in the St Mellon’s area of Cardiff.
I have a diagnosis of Down’s syndrome. I am mobile with very limited verbal communication.
PA would be required to either support me out in the community to participate in activities of mine and my mother’s choice and/ or in the home.
PA is required to encourage me to use my talk pad device to enable me to build on my use of sentencing / developing words and my overall communication skills.
On the spot training can be provided to navigate around communication talk pad device.
I have a calm, laid back, happy approach and am social, however, i will need encouragement to participate in activities.
I have no awareness of danger so it is important to ensure my safety at all times. 1on1 supervision required.
Shared personal care would be an advantage, while promoting use of toileting.
HOURS OF WORK
6 hours per week term time; hours to be worked on a Saturday and/or Sundays (midday onwards).
9 hours per week in school holidays; Flexi hours can be worked.
RATES OF PAY
£14.10 per hour
TASKS INVOLVED
To support with accessing activities as required such as swimming/horse riding/local restaurants/parks/kids festivals/attend rugby 6 nations.
To provide opportunities for social interaction.
To be responsible for her health and safety at all times.
Support with personal care.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Reliable, honest and trustworthy.
Understanding of confidentiality.
Must be able to use own initiative.
Patient and tolerant.
Confident.
Car driver able to drive the service user’s automatic vehicle. Insurance can be obtained.
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.
The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
