As part of the Safeguarding and Community Education team—within the Schools Quality Assurance service in the Education department—you’ll play a vital role in both strategic and operational work that promotes childrens' safeguarding, wellbeing and educational achievement.
The team works with schools, settings (Early Years, Alternative provision), and colleges inorder to provide advice, training and guidance around safeguarding and Elective HomeEducation.This team has strategic responsibility for ensuring that home education is suitable andengagement with home educating communities. Any concerns are escalated appropriatelyboth internally and with multi-agency partners. What you'll be doing- You will monitor Elective Home Education (EHE) children/families and be responsible for ensuring that all children have access to an appropriate education. The EHE team is responsible for monitoring and supporting all children that are electively home educated. The team will assess if home education is suitable, offer advice to parents and complete a review of EHE at least annually.
- You will hold line management responsibility for EHE team, allocating and monitoring cases and ensuring assessments are taking place within agreed timescales.
- You'll take responsibility for ensuring the team are up to date on local and national developments.
- You'll provide reports and statutory returns to the DfE.
- You'll lead the EHE policy and processes, including drafting EHE policy, engaging with EHE community and producing materials to support parents undertaking EHE and best practice.
You'll be an experienced, qualified teacher with an understanding of the elective home education system, including current government plans for reform of legislation. You will successfully lead a team of staff to provide the best support for children and families, ensuring that children receive the most suitable education for them. You'll be confident promoting the EHE team to wider partner agencies to ensure all are working to ensure the best outcomes for children. Promoting appropriate education is core to the role. The LA has a responsibility to ensure that all children have access to quality education and that they are able to receive education, employment or training up to the age of 18. Therefore, the role includes liaising with post-16 providers and ensuring careers advice is available to EHE families in year 9, 10 & 11 regarding post 16 options available. You will us your knowledge and experience as a qualified teacher (QTS), and of working with the EHE team and EHE families, to produce assessment documentation for the EHE team and develop practice guidance to promote best practice when visiting or engaging with families. This guidance will help ensure families have an accurate understanding of Elective Home Education and the Department for Education’s curriculum expectations. You will also assess whether parents are providing suitable education that promotes progress and is matched to their child’s ability. The role is responsible ultimately for ensuring the safeguarding of children within EHE cohort.
