Are you a talented design engineer with a passion for innovation and product development? Our client is looking for a Development Engineer to join their expert team and play a key role in shaping the future of formwork, scaffolding, and structural products for the construction industry.

You will be leading and supporting the structural design, analysis, and development of innovative products and systems used in temporary works, scaffolding, and formwork applications across the construction and infrastructure sectors. The role combines hands-on design, structural engineering, and collaborative development to deliver safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions aligned with industry standards and client needs.

This role is ideal for engineers working towards chartered status (IStructE or ICE) and offers structured support for Initial Professional Development (IPD) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Are you the right person for the job?

Qualifications:

• BEng or MEng in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (with structural emphasis)
• Our client would potentially consider supporting candidates working towards chartered status (IStructE or ICE) and offers structured support for Initial Professional Development (IPD) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• HNC/HND applicants with demonstrable experience in temporary works or structural design may also be considered

Experience & Skills:

• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in structural engineering, product development or temporary works design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor & AutoCAD essential)
• Experience with structural analysis software (preferably RFEM/RSTAB, ANSYS, or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of structural steel behaviour, fabrication techniques, and construction site practices
• Ability to produce and review detailed technical reports, drawings, and calculations
• Excellent teamworking and communication skills
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills

What will your role look like?

Design & Analysis:

• Undertake the conceptual and detailed design of structural components and systems, including temporary works and falsework applications
• Perform structural analysis and hand calculations in line with relevant Eurocodes and British Standards (e.g. EN 1990–1993, BS 5975) mathcad
• Use FEA tools (e.g. RFEM, RSTAB, ANSYS, Nastran) to verify load paths, stresses, and deformations in complex assemblies
• Ensure all design work is appropriately checked and validated through peer review and physical testing where applicable

Product Development & Innovation:

• Translate stakeholder and site requirements into robust, efficient product solutions
• Generate high-quality 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
• Support the planning, execution, and reporting of physical product testing (e.g. load, fatigue, deflection)
• Participate in product improvement activities based on site feedback, test results, or performance monitoring

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with manufacturing, commercial, and site teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective
• Attend site visits to support installation, gather performance data, and resolve engineering issues
• Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure product compliance and usability in live construction environments

Quality & Compliance:

• Adhere to internal engineering procedures, drawing standards, and document control processes
• Ensure designs meet appropriate legislation and technical requirements, including CE/UKCA marking where applicable
• Contribute to risk assessments and design safety evaluations in line with CDM 2015 regulations
