Your Role as a Graduate English Teaching Assistant
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you’ll be a valued part of the teaching and learning process.
• Delivering focused support to students who need help with literacy, reading comprehension, and written expression
• Supporting classroom teachers with lesson planning, preparation, and delivery
• Assisting pupils in the run-up to key assessments, including GCSE English exams
• Encouraging students to engage in literary discussion, develop arguments, and explore new texts
• Helping to raise literacy levels across the school through tailored interventions
• Creating engaging learning resources and contributing to classroom organisation
• Working collaboratively with teaching and support staff to meet individual learning needs
What We’re Looking For
The ideal Graduate English Teaching Assistant will be someone who’s eager to make an impact, build experience, and bring creativity to the classroom. We’re looking for someone with:
• A 2:1 or above in English Literature, English Language, or a related subject
• A strong command of written and spoken English
• A genuine interest in education and working with secondary-aged students
• A proactive and adaptable attitude
• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in leading small group sessions
• Experience with young people (tutoring, mentoring, youth work, etc.) is desirable but not essential
• A long-term goal of pursuing a PGCE, Schools Direct, or other teacher training pathway
