Summary

We have exciting opportunity for a Dental Technician to join our team in Plymouth.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual whose duties will include supporting the operational, clinical and contractual requirements of Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) relating to the design, construction and procurement of internal and external laboratory work, through supporting the clinical staff and students, liaising with external companies and informing and delivering the curriculum.
Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) are an award-winning Social Enterprise and Community Interest Company. We provide NHS treatment and outreach services to local communities in Devon and Cornwall and we work closely with the University of Plymouth’s Peninsula Dental School to support the clinical education of its dental healthcare students.

This role includes:
• A salary range of £31,985 - £36,008.
• 6.6 weeks holiday entitlement (pro rata), increasing after 5 years’ service. Payment for holiday is included within the annual salary. We also offer a holiday purchase scheme where you can buy up to two additional weeks holiday each year.

Key accountabilities:
• Provide support to the PDSE Management Team to develop and implement a Laboratory strategy for PDSE
• Provide technical input in the development of clinical policy and procedure around the production and delivery of dental prosthodontics
• Provide support to the Clinical Team around design and production of dental appliances and communicate with consultants, clinicians, students and external partners.
• Provide technical input to assist with treatment planing, lab prescriptions, material selection and suitability, fault finding for complex equipment and materials.
• Provide an expert opinion in investigations of incidents involving laboratory made dental appliances
• Produce dental appliances independently from start to finish to a high standard
• Construct dental models and other appliances for teaching purposes
• Support the expansion of digital dentistry across sites.
• Use of specialised laboratory equipment – maintain and clean as necessary
• Maintain patient records, file prescriptions, store study models, book in lab work
• Assist in equipment testing

Knowledge, Education and Training:
• Qualified Dental Technician, registered with the General Dental Council
• Additional dental qualifications are desirable
• Excellent numeracy and literacy skills (minimum GCSE grade C, or equivalent, in maths and English)
• Computer literacy, including competence with Microsoft Office
• Understanding of a training establishment is desirable

Experience:
• Evidence of work in a clinical environment
• Evidence of work in a dental laboratory
• Evidence of working in the teaching environment is desirable but not essential
• Working independently in a team environment
