Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details
2 year fixed term contract.
Join Huntingdonshire District Council as a Private Sector Housing Officer, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping our Empty Homes Strategy.

About the role
Your primary objective will be to investigate and address the challenges posed by empty properties, working diligently to bring them back into use. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including Environmental Health and Housing Delivery, to develop innovative solutions that enhance our housing landscape.

Your responsibilities will include managing casework, conducting site visits, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. As you maintain meticulous records and provide data analysis, your contributions will directly impact the delivery of affordable housing options in the district.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about making a difference in our community.

About you
We are looking for a dedicated professional with a strong desire to learn and grow within the housing sector. Using your excellent organisational and communication skills, you will engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Your experience in managing empty homes, coupled with your ability to navigate complex regulations, will be essential in ensuring compliance and delivering results. Being energised by challenges, you approach them with creativity and resilience, always ready to adapt your strategies as needed.

A background in local government or public sector work is advantageous, but your commitment to serving the community and your ability to foster positive relationships will be the key to your success in this role. If you are ready to take on this rewarding challenge and contribute to a progressive and supportive team, we invite you to apply.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.

Apply
To apply for this position, please complete the application form.

The closing date is 9am 22 July 2025 and interviews will be held the week commencing 30 July 2025.

For many of our roles (where it is possible) we accommodate a hybrid model of working. Our hybrid work model enables employees to work remotely whilst allowing for in-office collaboration opportunities across the district. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.
