Summary

As a Consultant Psychiatrist working 37.5 hours per week over 4 or 5 days, you will deliver an evidence-based and focused treatment plan to support the children and young people aged 8-18, and their families, as they progress through their care plans to understand eating behaviours and restore physical health.

You will work alongside the talented and experienced multidisciplinary team to create tailored treatment programmes to support the individual needs of each young person within a warm and nurturing environment. This will allow you to understand symptoms, patterns and origins of psychological distress.

There is an on-call element to this role.

Other responsibilities include:

Review referrals and determine appropriateness for admission

Conduct admission assessment and ensure effective management plans of all young people on the unit

Conduct risk assessment and review regularly

Allocate specialist psychological treatments in line with individual needs

Assess physical health

Ensuring effective liaison with referring teams

Facilitating regular CPA review meeting

Act as Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act

Must-Haves :

Registered on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a licence to practice Experience of CAMHS eating disorders Experience of Review referrals and determine appropriateness for admission

Conduct admission assessment and ensure effective management plans of all young people on the unit

Experience of conducting risk assessment and review regularly

Allocate specialist psychological treatments in line with individual needs

Assess physical health Experience of Ensuring effective liaison with referring teams

Experience of Acting as Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act

The minimum 8 years' experience covers all their training and practice License: GMC registration with a license to practice.

Certificates: Core Psychiatry Training (CT1–CT3): 3 years full-time training covering general adult psychiatry and other subspecialties, enabling eligibility for Higher Specialist Training.

o Higher Specialist Training (ST4–ST6): 3 years in a chosen psychiatry subspecialty (e.g., adult, forensic, child and adolescent, or old age psychiatry), leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

o Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT): Confirms eligibility for consultant psychiatrist roles and placement on the GMC Specialist Register.

• Educational Qualifications: Recognized medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MBChB) from a GMC-approved institution.
• Mandatory Skills: Specific skill sets vary by role (detailed in job specifications). Examples include expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, Mental Health Act 1983 application, and multidisciplinary team leadership.Location Preference: Ideally local to the hospital site, but a relocation package is available for candidates elsewhere in the UK or Ireland.
