Are you driven by a calling to make a difference? Join us at HMP Dovegate and take on a role that is as fulfilling as it is impactful. As a Pagan Chaplain, you will play a crucial role in providing spiritual care and support to residents and staff during a pivotal time in their lives. Through worship, pastoral guidance, and faith-based programmes, you will help individuals find purpose, dignity, and hope. This is your chance to make a real difference, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment while empowering others to achieve positive change.
HMP Dovegate is a Category B prison in Staffordshire, housing up to 1,100 adult male residents. With a focus on rehabilitation and personal development, our facility includes a Therapeutic Community that supports residents in their journey towards reintegration into society. At HMP Dovegate, respect, understanding, and support are at the core of everything we do.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Function as a faith advisor, providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care to Pagan residents, staff, and their families.
- Plan and lead worship, meditation, and prayer at faith-specific meetings.
- Promote awareness of Pagan practices and coordinate recognition of seasonal festivals and other relevant events.
- Support residents in their resettlement by building connections with external Pagan faith communities.
- Collaborate with the multi-faith team to develop inclusive chaplaincy policies and programmes.
- Provide pastoral care during crises and contribute to the rehabilitation journey of residents.
- Contribute to chaplaincy administration and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Carry out responsibilities across both the Main Prison and Therapeutic Community areas of HMP Dovegate.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Recognition as a Pagan faith practitioner or equivalent qualifications as a Pagan spiritual advisor.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and inspire others.
- Experience in pastoral care, chaplaincy, or related roles, ideally within a custodial or similar environment.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to working in a diverse team.
- Good IT literacy and the ability to manage administrative responsibilities effectively.
