Clinical Psychologist - Adults with a Learning Disability

Grade 9 - equivalent Band 7 NHS

As a Clinical Psychologist within the Sutton Community Learning Disability Team at the London Borough of Sutton, you will be eligible for the following:

Reporting to the Clinical Health Team Manager, you will be providing clinical services to adults with a learning disability who require highly specialist psychological input. Our objective is to deliver the best outcomes for the health of adults with a learning disability. You will deliver a specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment to clients; for both individuals and groups whilst supporting the Assistant Psychologist and behaviour practitioner in providing specialist clinical supervision, psychological advice and training as required.

You will be joining a large Learning Disability (LD) Psychology department reporting to the Lead Psychologist and working and assisting supervision of LD Behavioural specialist, LD Assistant Psychologist and Trainee Psychologist.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute within our Community team for people with a learning disability. In this role, you will be working at the Civic Centre in the London Borough of Sutton with a team that works across different sites in Sutton and you will be visiting clients' homes. The team consists of Learning Disability Nurses, Physios, Occupational Therapist, Dietician, Speech and Language therapists and Creative Arts Therapists (Music and Drama/Movement Therapist).

This role supports the commitments set out in Sutton’s Health and Social Care LD Strategy to help improve access to work, health, independence and social participation. You will work collaboratively deploying your specialism to support the work of the wider team.

As a recently qualified, soon to be registered, Clinical Psychologist or someone with 1-2 years experience, we would expect you to demonstrate the following competences:

Qualified Clinical Psychologist or student in their final year of their PHD (PsychD)
UK HCPC registration on completion of PHD (PsychD)
Experience which includes Adults with a Learning Disability.
Experience to be in adapted Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), LD diagnostic assessment and Dementia assessment.
Extensive highly specialised knowledge and expertise in working with adults with learning disabilities:
High level ability to communicate effectively at both written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information
Highly developed knowledge of theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies to deliver the specific level of care adults with learning disabilities
