Summary

An opportunity has arisen at Coleman Primary School for a reliable and flexible Premises Officer to join our team, who is keen to make a difference and assist with maintaining the premises and grounds to a high standard.

Job overview

As a key part of our site team, you’ll have responsibility for general site maintenance, using a varied skillset to carry out tasks such as cleaning, refilling consumables, painting and decorating and manual handling, as well as ensuring the site is in a good condition for all to work and learn effectively.• Site Security.• Open and close the school premises daily.
• Monitor and maintain site security, including alarms, gates, and CCTV.
• Respond to emergency callouts as required.
• Maintenance & Repairs:
• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance (e.g., plumbing, painting).
• Report and oversee contractors for major repairs or compliance checks.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards or maintenance needs.
• Health & Safety:
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Maintain records of safety checks (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting, water hygiene).
• Support fire drills and emergency procedures.
• Cleaning & Waste Management:
• Oversee cleaning staff and ensure high standards of hygiene.
• Manage waste disposal and recycling.
• Replenish hygiene and cleaning supplies.
• Grounds Maintenance.• Maintain outdoor areas including playgrounds, car parks, and green spaces.
• Ensure safe access during adverse weather (e.g., gritting paths in winter).


Job requirementsEssential


Minimum of 3 GCSEs at C grade or above, or equivalent qualifications.

Good standard of maintenance and DIY experience with an understanding of health and safety parameters.

Experience of working within an operational environment to provide day-to-day maintenance support.

Ability to prioritise and plan own workload.Basic DIY and maintenance skills.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Awareness of safeguarding and health & safety practices.Reliable, proactive, and flexible approach.Desirable Previous experience in a school or similar setting.Knowledge of COSHH and manual handling First Aid or Health & Safety training.
