Summary
JOB SUMMARY This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The postholder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed. The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments. The postholder will be the Specialist lead in his area of expertise and will be responsible for the Installation, maintenance, servicing and repairs of all equipment and properties belonging to the Trust or for other organisations as directed. They will ensure compliance of all safety standards and procedures for both in house and contracting staff by ensuring training and technical support is provided. They will be responsible for ensuring the Trust is maintained as required by statutory and Government Guidelines i.e. HTMs, HBNs etc. KEY RESULT AREAS: 1. The lead specialist in his area of expertise will have an understanding of Electrical distribution systems Generator and Battery Systems Fire Alarm systems Emergency Lighting Systems BMS Systems Ventilation Systems Heating and Plumbing systems Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 HTM 06:02 (Electrical Low Voltage Systems) BS 7671 wiring Regulations Electrical installation testing and inspection Approved codes of practice and applicable standards. 2. Service. Test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment, deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. 3. Problem solve technical issues which arise during the course of your duties. 4. Undertake duties of lower grade staff as appropriate. 5. Supervise facilities support workers and facilities technical support workers as required. Checking and evaluating their work. 6. Assemble install and commission new work. 7. Use all relevant tools and equipment. 8. Liaise with specialist contractors or suppliers regarding the provision of technical advice or the ordering of spare parts. 9. Instruct others on all aspects of your work. 10. Learn new techniques/technologies with training as necessary. 11. To carry out new electrical works as and when required to IEE Regulations 18th Edition. 12. To carry out electrical installation testing in accordance with the IEE Regulations 18th Edition. 13. To methodically log all results and ensure work repair requirements are raised relating to any tolerances out of the manufacturers specification. 14. To ensure all repairs are carried out as a priority. 15. To liaise with contractors whilst carrying out work. 16. Provide costings for new work, obtain authority from budget holder. 17. Implement new work and keep within agreed budget and time allocation. 18. To issue work to contractors. 19. To supervise contractors and ensure work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety at Work Regulations, Trust Policies and Risk Assessments. 20. The postholder will be required to carry out work in accordance with working at heights and permit to work systems on various functions in various conditions i.e. confined spaces, sewerage, drains, boiler houses, patients equipment, heights and unlocking sluice master. (Protective clothing must be worn at all times). 21. To work from ladders, to erect and work from scaffold (once trained) and safe use of safety harness. 22 The postholder will be required to carry out work on plumbing and drainage systems as required. 23. To ensure all paper work is completed and recorded as required by the Operational Estates Officer. 24. To have an understanding of patients needs, work closely with nursing staff and show empathy when working alongside patients. 25. To carry out new work/maintenance of I.T. and Telecommunications systems. 26. The department operates a crossover of duties and as such the job holder would be expected to carry out other trades work, which is within his skill level. He/she would be expected to gradually increase his knowledge and capabilities in other trades to progressively and successfully take on complex work of a multi trade nature. Miscellaneous To be trained to be a key holder for the secure units throughout the trust. To work closely with Ward Managers and work alongside patients and have an understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties. Establish good working relationships with all points of contact with estate users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required. Driving hospital vehicles and plant as required (not H.G.V.). The postholder will be expected to participate in The out of hours on call rota which involves multi skilling across all trades, bringing you into contact with sewage and other bodily fluids (for which protective equipment must be worn). The Post holder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as instructed by the Operational Estates Officer. The postholder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if the need of service dictates. All Trust employees are expected to maintain existing skills and develop/receive training in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust. To ensure the appropriate use of safety and protective clothing and equipment, as required by good working practice and the Health and Safety at Work Act. To read understand and apply safety guidance notes, hazard letters, fire instructions and other such documents as issued to the post holder by Operational Estates Officer.
