Summary

Proud to serve. Proud to keep justice going.

Our Admin Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support to Court users, Judiciary and Management.

About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our Court users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice. If you are interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.

Your role

Our administrative teams are the core of our National Services delivering great customer service to enable Justice. You will be working within one of our tribunals, supporting the processing and management of appeals and applications. These may involve decisions made by government departments on matters such as benefits, compensation, immigration, or other legal entitlements.

You will play a key role in ensuring that cases are handled efficiently and fairly, helping individuals navigate the appeals process. Our tribunals are part of the wider First-tier Tribunal system, which is structured around specific areas of law and is responsible for resolving a wide range of legal disputes

You’ll register new appeals onto our tribunals database, issue tribunal directions, progress cases, list appeals and arrange Judicial office holders to hear appeals. You may also be asked to clerk a virtual hearing on our video hearing platform. This involves assisting customers and Judiciary in preparing for a hearing and commencing a hearing promptly.

You will have the confidence to liaise with Judiciary, legal representatives and service users and be able to adapt your verbal and written communication style in an empathetic and patient manner.

Your skills and experience

With a friendly and approachable manner, you’ll have good written and verbal communication skills with a desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers. You’ll have great attention to detail, be able to enter information into our database accurately and efficiently, and able to adapt to using various software packages. You’ll enjoy organising your time, prioritising efficiently and multi-tasking in a busy environment.

Hybrid working arrangements will be determined by the business and will only be available when it has been established that delivering the service from home can be done effectively. We cannot facilitate requests for a particular work from home/working in the office schedule.

To ensure our services are consistent and operated effectively, successful candidates will be required to work full-time. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week and working hours will be between 7:30 and 18:00. There is an expectation that you can be flexible with your working hours to accommodate the needs of the business.
