Summary

You will be joining a friendly team who are passionate in how we can ensure data is accurate, consistent and well-governed to support decision-making across Government.
This role plays a vital part in shaping and maintaining data governance frameworks that ensure the integrity, stewardship and compliance of data across the Commercial and Grants function. This includes setting and enhancing data processes, working with data owners, and embedding good governance practices throughout the data lifecycle.
This role requires an experienced professional, with a strong understanding of data quality principles, governance frameworks, and the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
The GCG Data & Analytical Services team provides analytical support to both the Government Grants Management Function (GGMF) and the Government Commercial Function (GCF). We lead a broad range of projects, from publishing official statistics to developing governance frameworks and improving data quality across the Commercial and Grants function.
This role leads our Data Quality and Governance pillar, working to embed robust data standards and ensure high levels of trust in the data used to drive decision-making across government.
The responsibilities of this role include:
Establishing and embedding data governance standards:
- Develop and implement a data governance framework across the GGMF and GCF;
- Lead efforts to define data ownership, stewardship roles, and data quality responsibilities;
- Ensure alignment with the functions digital and data strategy and data governance principles.
Driving improvements in data quality:
- Work across the function to identify and resolve data quality issues in critical datasets;
- Develop and monitor data quality metrics and set up dashboards and other tooling to assess completeness, accuracy and timeliness of data;
- Maintain data standards and drive adoption of these across government to ensure consistency in key grants and commercial datasets;
- Champion the use of consistent data definitions, metadata and data standards across the function and across wider government.
Working with stakeholders across government:
- Provide expert advice on data governance and data quality improvements to senior leadership;
- Build data quality and governance community in the function and promote data owner, stewardship behaviours across GGMF and GCF for critical data assets;
- Contribute to cross-government data governance and data health forums and communities.
Team leadership and line management:
- Provide objective setting, periodic performance reviews for analyst(s) in the same pillar;
- Support professional development and champion a culture of data responsibility and collaboration.
They will be responsible for the direct line management of at least two analysts, and matrix manage others on specific projects.
The post holder may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training; the post holder may also occasionally be required to carry out responsibilities at a higher level.
