Summary

The post is appropriate for doctors with an interest in a medical, surgical (trauma and orthopaedics) or general practice career due to the range of patient presentations and problems seen on the trauma rehabilitation unit.The candidate will be responsible for the day to day care of patients in the unit.

· Attend the ward daily and review all patients (with the RM consultant when available and also with support from acute clinical teams), aiming to providing continuity and to support therapy staff.

· Review patients’ background medical information with regard to chronic condition management during rehabilitation and prevent secondary complications.

· Attend and provide medical input to the MTRU MDT meetings.

· Liaise and collaborate with parent team junior doctors to update on changes to patient status including ordering (and taking if necessary) of bloods, XRs, other tests, prescriptions and discharge arrangements as appropriate.

· Follow/chase up results and action issues generated with senior support and guidance.

· Attend ward rounds/ad hoc patient reviews with parent teams, including daily trauma (A and E) round for MTRU patients.

· Clerk in and be familiar with presentation, progress and plans for all new admissions to MTRU.

· Be first point of contact for emergencies on the unit and queries from nursing and therapy staff

· Working with the major trauma coordinators, major trauma rehabilitation leads and Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine to contribute to the rehabilitation assessment and rehabilitation prescription process for major trauma patients.

· Liaise with and support patient’s families and carers.

To provide ward-based medical care with Consultant supervision for patients of the Major Trauma Rehabilitation Service (MTRS), focusing on the Major Trauma Rehabilitation Unit (MTRU).



MTRU is a 10 bedded inpatient unit which opened in November 2017 to provide multidisciplinary specialist rehabilitation to patients after major trauma. It is one part of the RVI MTRS, which is designed to provide very early (from critical care onwards) rehabilitation assessment and also post-discharge specialist rehabilitation care for patients who have accessed the inpatient service.
