Summary

The Activity Co-ordinator role is integral to the running of the ward group programme at Park Royal, from delivering Plan your Day meetings and daily wellbeing activities first thing in the mornings to cooking evening meals with service users. Activity Coordinators offer a wide variety of groups and individual activities throughout the day in a fast paced and highly rewarding environment.

We are looking for someone who has:
• Good communication skills: verbal and written, English to GCSE or equivalent
• Experience in facilitating groups and individual activities
• Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of people with mental health issues.

This role requires successful candidates to be able to engage in Therapeutic Management of Violence and Aggression (TMVA) training, including the use of force techniques and the ability to attend resuscitation training and perform CPR. This is because of the high-acuity nature of the ward / community environment and the need to ensure the safety of both patients and staff. The role is conditional upon candidates being able to engage in TMVA training and resus training during the course of their employment whilst undertaking this role

Do you have a passion for mental health care?

Do you have creative skills which you can use to engage patients in on a mental health ward?

If so, there is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Activity coordinator to work alongside the Occupational Therapists, Fitness instructors, Psychologists, Peer Support worker and Nursing team on the wards.

We are looking for a person who can engage patients in activities such as gardening, art, music, cooking, and support them on their recovery journey.

The aim of the role is to provide interventions, using recovery principles, in order to improve the service users’ quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.

The post holder will receive regular supervision by an Occupational Therapist and opportunities for training through CNWL Learning and Development and the Recovery and Wellbeing College. We also have an OT apprentice post within the team which has so far had three of our Activity Coordinators move into, providing excellent progression into a qualified post for those who are interested.

We have four Activity Coordinators working across four acute mental health wards and one PICU. The role includes facilitating a programme of social, creative and skills-based activities to both individuals and groups which promotes social inclusion for service users. Activities take place on the wards and in the local community.

Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust is one of England's largest NHS Trusts.

With great size, comes fantastic opportunities, to develop, innovate and progress.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.
• To provide interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve the service users’ quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.
• To facilitate a programme of social, creative and skills-based activities to both individuals and groups which promotes social inclusion for service users.
• To work closely with the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) in leading on the facilitation of client centred activities.
