We have an exciting opportunity for a hard-working and reliable Trainee Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Umec Ltd.
The successful applicant will join a team that provides engineering solutions in water treatment, energy and environmental facilities on major construction projects.
About the role:
The role of the fitter is to ensure our projects are assembled and adapted in compliance with designs and specifications and to production schedules. As a fitter you will be required to build and or adapt units and/or equipment to drawing and specifications supplied. The successful applicant will be required to work away from home at various locations throughout the UK.
Duties:
• Working as part of a 2 man team, to support qualified engineer.
• Fitting and assembly of machine parts to engineering drawings.
• Completion of basic plastic and steel fabrication
• Fitting of sub assembly parts.
• Drilling and tapping of components when necessary.
• Strip/prepare and maintain components of existing and new mechanical structures.
• Work with engineers and other staff, contractors or clients to ensure provision of a quality product.
• Safe and secure storage of parts and other consumables, reporting component shortages and making recommendations for consumables.
• Maintain project equipment.
• Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in a clean, complete and safe condition in accordance with company and quality standards.
• Continuously monitor part delivery and quality.
• Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of all work areas.
• Ensure personal, protective equipment issued is worn in all required areas.
• Ensure Health and Safety standards are adhered to.
• Demonstrate use of equipment and/or components as required.
• Perform installation, testing and other service duties as required, on or off-site.
Trainee Fitter - Person Specification
• Knowledge and interest in a mechanical or engineering environment.
• Ability to work accurately and efficiently.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to co-ordinate tasks.
• Ability to meet deadlines, work calmly under pressure and work well as part of a team.
• Ability to work flexibly, self-motivate, able to take ownership and act on own initiative.
• Ability to work accurately and to identify imperfections.
• Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
• An aptitude for practical skills.
• Candidates must be willing to travel across various sites throughout UK.
Essential:
• CSCS Card
Desirable:
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Willingness to undertake further training as required.
