Summary

Role Title: Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)
Reports to: Executive Headteachers
Location: Liscard Road, Wallasey, CH44 5TH
Salary: Starting from £44,000

About the Role
As SENCO, you’ll lead the coordination of special educational needs across our schools, supporting pupils with diverse learning needs through tailored interventions, effective leadership, and collaboration with staff. The role includes a teaching element, allowing for direct impact in the classroom and a strong connection to student progress.

Purpose
-Ensure all pupils achieve their full potential.
-Provide leadership and professional guidance in teaching and SEN practices.

Key Responsibilities
-Leadership & Management
-Collaborate with senior leaders to support behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
-Monitor and improve teaching and learning to meet all pupil needs.
-Promote and model EdStart’s core values across settings.

Teaching & Learning
-Identify and deliver study skills to support independent learning.
-Implement SEN-focused teaching strategies and progress tracking systems.
-Screen new pupils for needs and review provision accordingly.

Staff Development
-Lead training sessions and workshops on SEN strategies and interventions.
-Support and coach teachers and learning assistants.

Operational Management
-Coordinate teaching programs, resources, and communication with stakeholders.
-Ensure best SEN practices are shared and consistently applied.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing
-Act as Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding and lead on looked-after pupils.
-Promote student wellbeing and liaise with parents and external agencies.

Parental & Stakeholder Engagement
-Maintain strong partnerships and provide regular progress updates.

Behaviour Management
-Develop behaviour strategies in partnership with the Managing Director.

Provision Mapping & IEPs
-Oversee the development and review of provision maps and IEPs.
-Encourage staff accountability for SEN progress.

External Collaboration
-Build strong relationships with schools and agencies to enhance support for SEN pupils.

Qualifications & Experience
-Minimum 2 years' leadership experience, ideally within Alternative Provision.
-SENCO qualification required; other education qualifications desirable.

-Inspire and support staff development through feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
-Plan and implement strategies to improve teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
