Summary

We are recruiting two full-time Food Safety Officers within the proactive Public Protection Team to cover maternity leave. The temporary contracts will expire on 31.03.2026. Specific duties include undertaking food safety and standards inspections, food sampling, investigating complaints, and investigating cases of infectious disease. You will be responsible for your own case load being both proactive and reactive to a range of demands in a very fast paced environment. This will involve assessing intelligence, undertaking investigations, providing advice, and preparing notices and reports for enforcement.

The Public Protection team is responsible for protecting public health by assessing levels of compliance with all aspects of food safety. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the Council implements and meets its statutory duties. You will liaise closely with colleagues, other internal departments as well as outside agencies such as the FSA, HSE and UKHSA.
This is a hybrid post working from one of our Council offices within the borough, as well as the opportunity to work from home. About You
You are a positive, dynamic and results-focused individuals with a firm belief in protecting and improving the health and quality of life for residents and visitors to the borough. You will have:
A Diploma, Degree or Master’s level in Environmental Health or
The Higher Certificate in Food Control
Previous experience of working in food safety and/or food standards, either within the public sector or a commercial setting.
Awareness of the importance of multi-disciplinary working and an integrated team approach.
The ability to cope with change and to promote positive changes to deliver successful and sustained outcomes.
A full driving licence.
