About the role

Our largest heat network provides heating and hot water to 481 homes and is located just outside of York. The homes are mixed tenure and JRHT have a responsibility to ensure that the heat network provides heating and hot water to all. The project was delivered around 2013 and has been running for around 10 years. It is made up of biomass and gas boilers and the homes are fitted with their own HIU’s.

Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust are seeking a qualified District Heating Manager to manage our optimisation strategies, providing standardisation and compliance whilst ensuring transformational change activities are delivered seamlessly across our district heating networks.

As District Heating Manager, you will be responsible for making sure the heat network is effectively managed by our suppliers and support an option appraisal study for its future. You will work with our suppliers and consultants to ensure that optimum outputs are achieved and provide technical knowledge to JRHT. We also have 6 other district heating networks that are required to comply with the Heat Network Regulations.

You will closely oversee key areas of planned preventative maintenance and optimisation activities with the incumbent O&M (Operation & Maintenance) Contractor and external advisory Contractors/Consultants and manage all associated funding bids, with support from contractor/consultants. You will take ownership of a system wide options appraisal report that has been set-up to review all sustainable and cost-effective options and manage tendering of contracts to third parties.

About you

As our District Heating Manager, ideally your career to date has been within mechanically biased Building Services Engineering, having operational experience on district heating systems. With a proven track record of problem solving and fault finding, you will have knowledge of CDM and robust Health & Safety Training.

With vast district heating management experience, you will be a degree qualified Chartered Engineer, although consideration will be given to candidates having HNC/HND combined with substantial operational and management experience. You will hold a corporate membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIBSE and have demonstrable Team leader experience.
