Summary
Teaching The unit has a strong ethos of medical education which we are keen to continue and develop. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in formal and informal teaching programmes on the unit, including our weekly in-situ SIM training programme. As a teaching hospital we have medical students throughout the year, including SAMP students and students from Portsmouth University undertaking their intercalated degree in Critical Care which will give the successful candidate opportunities to develop their teaching skills. During your time with you will be able to attend departmental teaching with our intensive care and anaesthetic trainees. Research/Audit Research is very much an area of development within our unit post COVID. We are now a recruiting centre for MARCH, iRehab, T4P, MOSAICC, ABBRUPT and GenomICC studies with several further trials in setup. As a unit we aspire to develop our research capability further and have support from our research department, as well as strong links with other departments involved in research. You will have the opportunity to recruit and randomise appropriate patients to clinical trials, and undertake further training in research if desired The ICU has a good history with quality improvement/audit projects and you will be encouraged to undertake a project with the aim of presenting this at our departmental governance meetings. Continuing Medical Education It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure they are registered for continuing professional development and are responsible for keeping themselves abreast of new developments and best evidence based practice. You will get support to ensure you complete an appraisal during your placement with us. We have an excellent record with our Clinical Fellows of supporting them through Speciality Interviews for Core Training with the majority of our previous fellow getting their top choice of job. The post holder will be considered for study leave to attend formal courses, conferences, etc., and the funding will be available according to the agreed terms and conditions of service for the medical staff within the NHS.
