We’re hiring an experienced HGV Technician to step up into a Workshop Supervisor or Shift Chargehand role in a busy, well-equipped commercial vehicle workshop based in Burton-on-Trent. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with leadership skills and a hands-on approach to take ownership of team performance, workshop quality, and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities of a Workshop Supervisor / Shift Chargehand
Lead the workshop shift and support technicians to maintain high productivity
Carry out diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
Ensure repairs meet VOSA, DVSA, and manufacturer standards
Liaise with the Branch Manager on shift planning and efficiency
Oversee accurate completion of job cards, service records, and compliance paperwork
Support parts ordering and coordination to streamline repair times
Attend breakdowns and respond to customer needs when required
Maintain workshop safety, cleanliness, and professionalism
Take part in manufacturer training to stay up to date with vehicle tech
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Experience as an HGV Technician or Truck Mechanic
Proven leadership or Chargehand background within a workshop setting
NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
Full UK Driving Licence
Excellent communication, organisation, and decision-making skills
Desirable
IRTEC inspection licence
HGV Class 1 (C+E) or ADR licence
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
