The Role
The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing site operations, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring compliance in line with all relevant health and safety regulations. To effectively manage all on-site activities for construction projects, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards. Have direct contact with all staff members providing support where needed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day site operations, including supervision of subcontractors and direct labour.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the project programme and specification.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring all personnel comply with company policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality of work.
• Liaise with the Project Manager and other stakeholders to report on progress, issues, and changes.
• Ensure effective communication between all parties on-site and off-site.
• Coordinate site logistics, including deliveries, storage of materials, and waste disposal.
• Review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Ensure all site documentation is kept up to date, including daily diaries, site instructions, and material delivery records.
• Support the procurement process by forecasting material requirements and communicating needs in a timely manner.
• Manage and resolve any site issues or disputes in a professional manner.
• Monitor labour productivity and subcontractor performance, taking corrective action as needed.
• Lead site meetings and toolbox talks as required.
• Ensure works are completed in line with quality control procedures and sign-off protocols.
Health & Safety
• Promote a positive health and safety culture across the site.
• Enforce compliance with company H&S policies and procedures.
• Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to the Site Manager.
• Ensure that all operatives are working in line with PPE requirements, method statements and risk assessments.
• Maintain safe access/egress, traffic routes, and work areas on site.
What We’re Looking For…
Person Specification
Essential:
• Proven experience as a Site Manager on construction projects within the UK.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, building regulations, and health & safety legislation.
• CSCS card (Black or equivalent).
• SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
• First Aid at Work certificate.
• DBS
• PASMA
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
• NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Construction Site Management.
• Temporary Works Coordinator certification.
• Contractual Knowledge
• Design coordination experience
• Experience in residential, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
