The Role
The Working Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating site activities while actively participating in construction works. The role combines hands-on trade work with supervisory responsibilities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards, while maintaining a high level of Health & Safety.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of site operatives and subcontractors.
• Work alongside trades teams to contribute to project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, and delivery logs.
• Ensure full adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
• Conduct and document toolbox talks, site inductions, and risk assessments.
• Monitor and manage site health and safety practices, including PPE usage and hazard reporting.
• Communicate effectively with site management, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Manage materials and plant on site, ensuring timely procurement and minimal waste.
• Ensure site housekeeping and waste control measures are maintained.
• Undertake quality inspections and ensure remedial works are completed promptly.
• Assist with snagging and final project handover.




Health & Safety Responsibilities
• Promote a positive health and safety culture across the site.
• Enforce compliance with company H&S policies and UK legislation (e.g., CDM Regulations 2015).
• Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to the Site Manager.
• Ensure that all operatives are working in line with PPE requirements, method statements and risk assessments.
• Maintain safe access/egress, traffic routes, and work areas on site.

What We’re Looking For…
Person Specification
Essential:
• Demonstrable experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
• Strong working knowledge of construction methods and trades.
• SSSTS certification (or willingness to obtain).
• SMSTS certification.
• First Aid at Work qualification.
• Valid CSCS card.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction specifications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead a team and coordinate multiple site activities.
• Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:
• NVQ Level 3/Apprenticeship or above in a relevant construction trade.
• Experience working on residential, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
