Lewisham Council is seeking a driven and experienced Markets Manager to lead its Markets and Street Trading service, overseeing day-to-day operations, service strategy and statutory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a team delivering licensed street trading and market operations

Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the London Local Authorities Act

Oversee strategic planning, performance reporting, inspections, and enforcement

Manage a ring-fenced budget of up to £1 million, ensuring financial efficiency and accountability

Actively engage with internal and external stakeholders, including residents and local business groups

Drive service improvement, innovation, and continuous performance enhancement

Supervise recruitment, staff development, and operational delivery

Deputise for the Commercial Operations SGM when required

Essential Skills & Experience:

Strong leadership and operational management in a public-facing regulatory service

In-depth understanding of street trading legislation and local authority procedures

Proven financial acumen in managing income/expenditure budgets

Confident communicator with the ability to influence across departments and external bodies

Experience delivering outcome-based service reports and presenting to Committees

Working Pattern: Hybrid role with 2–3 days a week onsite at Wearside Depot
