Summary

Our Technical Services Unit have a brand-new opportunity for an experienced CDM Coordinator. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation across all sustainable transport projects and overseeing all health and safety activity.

Supporting the CDM Manager, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Transport for West Midlands' (TfWM) legal obligations concerning the planning, management, and coordination of health and safety throughout the design and delivery phases of major infrastructure projects. This role offers a dynamic and diverse workload, involving project auditing to ensure alignment with stated objectives and deliverables.

Providing top-tier advice and guidance within our newly formed Delivery Directorate, you will be pivotal in shaping project delivery, including high-profile initiatives like the Dudley Interchange and Sprint Phase 2. This role presents ample opportunities for growth and advancement, along with the chance to contribute to unique projects spanning the West Midlands. You will join a dedicated and expanding team, who are passionate about enhancing the region's prosperity and connectivity.

It is desirable that you hold a NEBOSH certification and have proven experience in the construction industry. The ability to work autonomously and demonstrate self-reliance is essential. Due to the nature of this role, site visits will be required regularly.

What you will be doing

  • Support the CDM Manager in delivering an expert health and safety advice service to the Delivery Directorate
  • Support the fulfilment of TfWM’s legal duties as client under the CDM Regulations 2015 for major infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and issue appointment letters to relevant duty holders.
  • Prepare the client brief and assist with compiling and collating pre-construction information.
  • Raise and submit the relevant statutory notices and permits such as F10 and monitor site activities to ensure they comply with permit specifications.
  • Prepare the Project Health and Safety Risk Register and ensure project safety risks are adequately managed.
  • Liaise with local authorities, the police, and regulators such as Health and Safety Executive in matters relating to Health and Safety of TfWM’s capital programme.
  • Undertake regular site audits, inspections and spot checks on contractors and site activities to ensure safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Keep up to date with new Health and Safety legislation and report any developments that affect TfWM and the project.

What’s essential

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced Certificate in Health and Safety Management
  • Good analytical skills, able to review information and determining the best approach.

Location.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane with at least 3 days a week spent in the office or on site.
