The City of Edinburgh Council's Sport and Physical Activity Team (Wider Achievement and Lifelong Learning), working in partnership with Enable Works and sportscotland invites applications for our Modern Apprentice Sports Coach vacancy.
This Modern Apprenticeship offers paid employment to a young person with a disability, who is between 16 - 24 years of age and living within the City of Edinburgh, with an interest in working in sport.
A disability could be a physical, learning or sensory impairment which may also include (this list is not exhaustive):
- ADHD
- Dyslexia/Dyscalculia
- Neurodivergence
- Autism
- Dyspraxia
The role combines on the job learning, with support, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
The successful applicant will be employed on a fixed term 18-month contract, working 25 hours per week, and will work towards achieving the SCQF Level 6 Sports Coaching qualification. The salary is £24,346 - £24,646 per annum (pro rata). Annual leave entitlement will be in line with City of Edinburgh Council conditions of service.
The training will be provided on-the-job within the Council's Active Schools/Sports Development Team.
The successful candidate will be expected to follow health and safety steps and attend all training.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
