This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply your skills and experience in leadership, project delivery and collaboration across government and with an arms-length body. You will be leading the transition of Department’s client and sponsorship oversight for one of the Department’s largest portfolios of infrastructure investment – the third road investment strategy (RIS3).

This role is within the Roads and Projects Infrastructure Delivery (RAPID) directorate. RAPID oversees National Highways’ delivery of multi-million-pound road investment. RAPID ‘client’ and ‘sponsor’ National Highways’ delivery, including aligning to government’s strategic missions, specifying requirements overseeing efficient delivery, undertaking sponsorship work with NH to unlock challenges at project/portfolio level, and monitoring safe operations and network resilience.

You and your team will help to develop the Department’s client and sponsor requirements for the effective oversight of RIS3. You will need to work closely and collaboratively with teams across government and National Highways.

You will also help develop project delivery skills and capability within your team and the wider RAPID directorate.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead for RAPID supporting the development of RIS3, working closely with Road Strategy to ensure delivery and oversight priorities are represented.
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively across the Department and National Highways, to identify the priorities and risks for RIS3 delivery.
  • Develop strong working relationships with RAPID colleagues in client and sponsorship roles.
  • Lead and define the client and sponsor governance to be ready to oversee RIS3 delivery.
  • Support the development of the business case for RIS3 to ensure effective oversight of delivery, performance and risks.
  • Ensure effective and efficient change plans to transition RAPID to deliver RIS3.
  • Client and sponsorship on aspects of National Highways RIS portfolio.
  • Develop your project delivery capabilities and the wider team.
