Summary
Do you have good people skills and are personable, friendly and approachable? Would you like to work with older people and make a positive difference in their lives?
Do you enjoy driving and hold a current driving licence with Category D1? (included in licences held before 01/01/1997).
We are looking to appoint another driver to join our small team to work 4 hours over 2 shifts every Monday as well as covering annual and sick leave. The bus leaves the Day Centre at 9am and 2pm, Monday to Friday to transport older adults with varying levels of need, using the tail lift as appropriate. You will be accompanied by a bus escort.

Job Purpose
• To ensure the safe transportation of Dumfries Day centre member,s staff and others authorised by the Day Centre Manager to be transported in the Day Centre minibus.
Key tasks and responsibilities
• To transport day centre users to and from the centre; picking them up and dropping off at assigned stops; escorting to and from the home to vehicle (bus escort also in attendance; ensuring passengers are safely seated for their journeys.
• To take Members on outings.
• To follow all health and safety protocols.
• To check oil, water and tyre pressures on a regular basis; ensure all light and indicators are working; check brakes, horn, windscreen wipers and ensure vehicle is fully fuelled.
• To observe for visual defects; check operating systems, including, door operating systems and lifting aids.
• To be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is kept clean externally and internally and wash the exterior and clean the interior once a week, or more if required.
• To maintain the vehicle log book and log of hours worked each week.
• To take vehicle for service and repairs as necessary.
• To assist in moving and transferring of users, including those using wheelchairs.
• To ensure communication with the day centre is maintained.
• To maintain safe conditions while travelling, enforcing safety and discipline rules; reporting any incident to the manager and completing incident report.
• To conduct end of day safety and security checks by inspecting and locking bus.
• To implement emergency plan in the event of an accident, notifying police and/or ambulance, administer first aid until help arrives, initiate evacuation plan, comfort passengers, report to day centre, file accident report.
• To regularly review and agree transport routes with the manager to ensure most efficient journeys.
• To report any concerns regarding the members to the manager.
• To report any licence endorsements/pending driving offences to manager immediately.
• To participate in team meetings and supervision.
• To undertake any appropriate training as determined by the Board of Trustees.
• To interact with members and their families in a courteous and effective manner.
• To act within the policies and principles of the Day Centre at all times.
• To promote and maintain high standards of care and practice.
• To regularly communicate with and report to your supervisor or manager as required and inform them immediately of any matters for concern of which they should be aware.
• To comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements and guidance.
• To comply with all confidentiality and data protection requirements.
• To work flexibly in the event of unpredictable circumstances e.g. snowy weather.
