Leigh Academy Halley is now recruiting for a Science Technician to join us in September 2025.

This is a truly fantastic opportunity for a passionate Science Technician to become part of a well-established, highly collaborative, and successful science team that works hard to ensure that students enjoy a challenging, dynamic, and rewarding curriculum. Students study science in Years 7-9 as part of our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, and the department offers both combined and triple science to all students at GCSE in Key Stage 4 and as we full a full suite of academic and vocational science qualifications at Key Stage 5. Our curriculum is enriched through our recent and ongoing upgrades to the science laboratories, to ensure that students have access to world-class learning facilities.

We are open to receiving applications from prospective candidates who wish to work 35 hours per week, plus 1 week, term time, and we also welcome applications from prospective colleagues who would wish to work part-time.

Key responsibilities, as outlined in the job description, include;

Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge students
Promote good progress and outcomes by students
To prepare materials and equipment for practical lessons
To maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in science to ensure all pupils can access a wide range of materials and processes as part of the curriculum
To maintain and monitor stock control
To assist the Director of Learning and staff members in in the ordering of materials and equipment
To carry out weekly material and equipment checks across all science rooms
To assist staff in the production and updating of displays
To provide technical support to staff during lesson time as required
To support small-group intervention for key exam groups across the curriculum
To work alongside the department in preparing standardisation materials for exam moderation
Carry out weekly Health and Safety checks on all equipment and report directly to the Director of Learning
To undertake any Health and Safety training as required by the DOL.
