Our client is seeking a motivated and skilled Communications and Engagement Officer to join their team on a short-term contract. In this role, you will support the development, delivery, and evaluation of effective communications and engagement campaigns relating to a wide range of Council services. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring consistent and strategic messaging across all channels and media.

Key Responsibilities


Plan, develop, and implement integrated communications and engagement campaigns aligned with Council priorities and service objectives.


Create engaging content for various platforms including press releases, social media, newsletters, and internal communications.


Monitor and manage media relations, responding to press enquiries and building positive relationships with local and regional media.


Manage and monitor the Council’s social media accounts, ensuring timely and appropriate content and engagement with the public.


Support the Council’s reputation by identifying and managing risks related to public perception and media coverage.


Liaise with stakeholders and partners to ensure effective collaboration and consistent messaging.


Evaluate the success of campaigns and report on performance using analytics and feedback.


Support internal teams in communicating key messages clearly and effectively.



Essential:



Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences.


Experience in managing multi-channel communications and media campaigns.


Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.


Experience using social media strategically in a professional setting.


Sound judgement in managing reputational issues and media queries.




Desirable:



Previous experience in a local government or public sector communications role.


Familiarity with communications tools such as content scheduling software, media monitoring tools, and analytics platforms.
