Summary
Using the Hologic Tomcat and Panther analysers to test Cervical Screening samples for Human Papilloma Virus.
To supervise the HPV team ensuring efficient workflow.
Working as part of a team and under the direction of senior staff, participate in the day - to-day support work of the Cytology Laboratory, Cellular Pathology.
Assist in undertaking routine and advanced preparation and processing of clinical
(cervical smears and diagnostic, non-gynae) specimens for biological testing.
Participate in data-entry and retrieval activities and other general clerical duties.
Undertake personal training and development appropriate to the position

Withrespecttoboththecervical screeningandthenon-gynaecytologysectionsofCytology,thepost-holderwill,
1. Participateinthereceipt,recordingandstorageofcervical cytology(LiquidBasedCytology)screeningspecimensandDiagnostic(non-gynae)specimens,ensuringthattheymeetqualitystandardsofidentificationandpreservationasdefinedinStandardOperatingProcedures.Identifyandprioritisespecimensappropriately.
2. ParticipateintheHPVtestingofLBCsamplesusingmoleculartechniquesusing semi-automatedandfullyautomatedprocesses.
3. Preparesamplesreadyfortesting.Completeallnecessarydocumentation.
4. PrepareAptimaHPVassaysforuse,performmaintenanceonTomCatsand
Panthersandupdatepaperwork
5. RuncalibratorsandQCsamplesandescalateanyissuestoaseniormemberof staff.
6. Performtrouble-shootingonTomCatsandPanthersmakingservicecallsifnecessary.
7. RunenvironmentalmonitoringandNEQASEQAsamplesasscheduledandrecordresults.
8. Participateinthepartialpreparationofdiagnosticsamplesunderthesupervisionof
BMSstaff.
9. ParticipateintheprocessingofLBC samplesandthepreparationofslidesformicroscopicexaminationieloadingcellprocessor,staining,cover-slipping,collationofwork
10. Participateinthepreparation,cleaning,decontamination,calibrationandmaintenanceoflaboratoryequipmentandworkingareas.
11. Facilitatethedisposalofsamplesaccordingtoprotocol.
12. Participateinthepreparationofreagentsforroutinelaboratoryuse
13. InputdatatodepartmentalandotherIT systemsandfrompaperrecords.Codeand verifydata.Retrieveinformationfromother systems.Undertakethisworktoensuretheaccuracyofthepermanentlystoredpatientrecords
