  • Permanent part time seasonal contract – based on 20 hours per week during February to November each year

  • This role is eligible for our “Golden Hello” welcome payments up to £2,400 pro rata. This will be paid to you in regular instalments during your first year of employment, in addition to your usual salary (Terms and Conditions apply).

What you’ll be doing

As a Chef you’re a key part of our Hospitality and Catering team! You’ll be the supporting the Head Chef and play an important role in delivering catering service to resident groups that visit us at our Field Studies Centre.

  • You’ll do some hands-on cooking, kitchen management and deputising for the Head Chef as needed, as well as assisting with the supervision of the catering team.

  • This is an active role and you’ll need to be happy to be able to carry out all of the duties associated with kitchen work.

  • This is a Chef role with a difference, you can achieve a great Work/Life balance with no late shifts! Our finish time is normally 7.30pm at the latest.

  • We usually operate fixed mealtimes with one or two sittings, using set menus with two or three food choices.

  • This is a seasonal role which will allow you to follow other interests and pursuits over the winter months secure in the knowledge that you have a job to come back to.

  • The working pattern will be based on 20 hours per week during the core season only (normally February to November) each year.

Where you’ll be based

The Field Studies Council Millport centre is situated on the Isle of Cumbrae in Scotland. It has state of the art purpose-built conference facilities, twin bedroom ensuite accommodation with sea views, plus 7 teaching spaces comprising classrooms and laboratories.

We host learners of all ages and backgrounds from nursery schools, primary and secondary schools, universities, adults and research placements from all over the world.

Who we’re looking for

You will have some previous catering experience and the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, line managers and customers.

We ask that all our chefs have a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. If you don’t have it yet, don’t worry – we’re happy to help you get it before you start.
