Summary
The Department of Archaeology is seeking an experienced, reliable and efficient PA for the Head of Department. The hours are the equivalent of three days a week and can be arranged flexibly over the working week and the academic year. The post holder will be based in the Department of Archaeology and hybrid working is a possibility.
The main duties include processing email to identify priorities, managing and coordinating diaries, resolving timing conflicts, and ensuring timely action is taken and followed up. Committee work such as contributing to the creation of agenda and papers and some minuting, will be a regular part of the role during term time as well as organising meetings, booking rooms and refreshments etc. Other duties include working with the Department Administrator on the Department website and intranet, updating records and monitoring shared mailboxes and similar administrative tasks.
Applicants should have excellent people and communication skills, knowledge of web-based administrative systems including online meeting platforms (for example Teams and Zoom) or a willingness to acquire them, and education to at least A-level or equivalent standard. Good spoken and written English is essential. Previous experience of PA or secretarial work and knowledge of University administrative systems and procedures are essential.
The Department has around 35 Established University Teaching Officers and Teaching Associates, several Affiliated and Unestablished Lecturers and many specialist visiting teachers in any year. There are about 90 undergraduate students taking programmes in the department in any one year, 80 MPhil students and 80 PhD students.
