An exciting opportunity exists for an individual with experience in a rehabilitation or care role to take the role of senior therapy assistant on the Intensive Care Unit (ITU) at Southend Hospital.
The role involves being an active member of the team supporting the physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients on the Intensive Care Unit. The successful candidate would be required to have at least 2 years hospital or care experience or experience in a rehabilitation role.
The post will include weekend and bank holiday working as part of an inpatient team rota across the hospital, for which a day off in the week is given.
The successful candidate will be required to work with patients who are admitted to hospital with a variety of different presentations that require intensive medical support. Therapists play a vital role in maintaining and improving the patients physical and mental wellbeing whilst recovery takes place.
The role will involve working with patients who are extremely unwell with some requiring support from a ventilator. The role will also involve taking responsibility for a caseload, performing timely assessment, planning management and providing feedback to qualified staff.
You will be joining a team who provide high quality patient focused care and will be required to work within a busy environment alongside other healthcare professionals. Training for this role will be provided to support your development through supervision, competency training and in service training.

The main duties of the role will include:
• Assisting the patient to perform bed exercises.
Performing passive movements to maintain joint mobility for unconscious patients
• Facilitating them to sit up and get out of bed using a variety of specialist equipment.
• Helping patients to perform personal tasks such as getting washed and dressed.
• Speaking and working with the patient’s relatives to establish their pre-admission abilities and possibly plan discharge.
• Working alongside the critical care nursing staff to facilitate daily rehabilitation activities.
