Summary
Murphy is recruiting for a Design Manager to work with Water on United Utilities AMP8 projects in North West of England.
We provide end-to-end services for major water and sewage companies such as Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities, and for several water-only companies including SES Water, Bristol Water and South East Water.
We also provide a full design, build, operate and maintain service for Uisce Éireann and we currently operate over 25 of their facilities, ensuring they run efficiently and comply fully with EPA regulations.
A day in the life of a Murphy Design Manager
- Produce design briefs for permanent works
- Ensure consultants are appointed appropriately
- Lead technical reviews of submissions from our design partners
- Ensure conformance to the Murphy Design Management procedure
- Lead design matters on small/medium/large/mega sized project/s as directed
- Allocate design tasks to individuals/companies as required and maintain associated RACI
- Manage day to day interface between design and construction teams and maintain its adequate records
- Review design progress according to programme and contractual requirements
- Lead constructability reviews
- Involvement in work winning to ensure consultants and engaged appropriately and adequate allowances are included in the bid
- Assist Senior Design Managers, consultants and multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver the design solutions to schedule and budget to a high standard of professional competence
- Management of design change to support best outcome for the project
- Support with management of risk and opportunity in design

- Significant experience in a design management role within the construction sector.
- Management skills – confident in managing staff, clients, design budgets and programmes
- Flexibility and willingness to travel
- HND or Engineering Degree qualified
- Member of a recognised engineering institution. Incorporated Engineer or Chartered and or working towards membership
