Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Warrington-based high school that is easily accessible via public transport, as they are looking to appoint a motivated, experienced and qualified teaching assistant to support a pupil in KS3 with a dual diagnosis or ASD and SEMH. This is a full-time long-term contract consiting of 32.5 hours per week, where you will act as this pupils main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gates and walking them back to their grown-ups at the end of the day.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school you will be supporting a male pupil in KS3 with a dual diagnosis of ASD and SEMH who spends half of his time within a resource provision and the other half in a main classroom. You will support them throughout the school day, ensuring that they are able to access the full curriculum in a safe, engaging and inclusive environment. You will incorporate new outines into their day and deliver bespoke interventions in all core subjects. As this pupil has SEMH, you will be required to take a holistic approach to their education, incorporating the requirements of their EHCP into their learning and associating learning materials with their key interests. You will implement an array of positive behaviour strategies that your pupil best responds to including brain breaks, sensory circuits and positive reinforcement. Due to their needs, at times they will trigger and may present behaviours that challenge, in this event you will take them out of the classroom to give them time to calm down before reintergrating them back into the classroom.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent relevant referenceable experience within a classroom environment, as well as:
- Experience supporting SEMH and/or ASD
- Experience implementing positive behaviour strategies
- Experience delivering academic interventions at a KS3 level (minimum)
