Join a leading Tier 1 main contractor delivering complex civil engineering projects across the UK. We're seeking a proactive and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial ownership of a significant £50 million highways development in Surrey.

This is a pivotal role for someone with a main contracting background who excels in managing financial control, maximizing value, and building strong client/subcontractor relationships on major infrastructure schemes.

What You'll Deliver (Key Responsibilities):

You'll manage the project's comprehensive commercial function:

  • Establish and control project budgets, including detailed cost reporting and forecasting (costs to date, cost to completion, cash flow).
  • Expertly review contracts, including stepping down terms from main to subcontracts.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement, tender documentation, and finalisation.
  • Administer main contracts and subcontracts, ensuring NEC contract compliance.
  • Conduct delay analysis, compile narratives, and prepare loss and expense claims (highly preferable).
  • Manage variation / compensation event mechanisms for commercial protection.
  • Proactively resolve subcontractor issues and maintain strong client liaison.
  • Lead day-to-day management of staff resources, ensuring effective cost management.
  • Represent the organization commercially at all key meetings.
  • Utilise company software for all reporting, forecasting, and contract management.

What You'll Bring (Person Specification):

  • Essential Technical Competencies:
    • Third-Level Qualification (Degree or similar).
    • Proven Senior-level Commercial/QS experience from a main contracting background.
    • Experience across heavy Civils sectors (e.g., Highways, Rail, Marine projects).
    • Expert understanding of NEC contracts.
    • Strong Cost Control, Negotiation, and Problem Solving skills.
  • Desirable Technical Competencies:
    • Professional Qualification (e.g., MRICS/MCICES).
  • Essential Behavioural Competencies:
    • People Management & Team Leadership.
    • Clear Communication, strong Client Focus, Planning & Organising.
    • Teamwork, Organisational Understanding, Safety Awareness.
