The post holder will be a qualified General Practitioner on the Performers Register who can demonstrate highly developed clinical skills and be able to demonstrate critical thinking whilst working within their professional boundaries and scope of practice. They will provide safe, high-quality, and compassionate medical care to patients as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering routine and urgent services across face-to-face, telephone, online, and home visit settings. They will communicate at all levels across boundaries and work closely with wider clinical team members. This fixed-term maternity locum role is ideal for a newly qualified GP looking to develop their clinical and professional skills in a supportive environment. The postholder will work flexibly and autonomously, confidently managing their own clinical caseload and workflow, while recognising their own limitations and appropriately seeking advice and support when needed. They will contribute to the delivery of core and enhanced services, ensuring the practice meets its contractual obligations, and will engage with wider practice and PCN initiatives.As a valued member of the team, the GP will also act as a role model in supporting the development of the future workforce, including GP registrars, pre-registration pharmacists, and nurses, contributing to a positive and educational environment and supporting workforce planning where appropriate. Key Responsibilities and Duties Provide high-quality clinical care to patients in line with GMC standards and the practices clinical protocols Deliver consultations via face-to-face, telephone, online systems (SystmConnect), and home visits as required Instigate diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings and reports. Directly admits patients to secondary care hospitals in acute medical need. Refer patients to other medical specialities for assessment as required including fast track referrals Undertake and interpret a range of diagnostic test and clinical procedures To take responsibility for making autonomous decisions in relation to patient care. Use SystmOne to maintain clear and accurate clinical records Support and contribute to the delivery of QOF and Local ICB Quality Improvement Scheme Participate in the delivery of enhanced services and PCN initiatives Ensure timely and appropriate follow-up of pathology results, letters, and medication requests with support from our Medical Admin and Pharmacy teams Manage their own and fair share of repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, medical reports and examinations, referral letters and correspondence in a timely manner. Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug- and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan. Prescribe safe, effective and appropriate medication as defined by current legislative framework and prescribing incentive schemes. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care and signpost appropriately to a range of allied health professionals. Make referrals as required for specialist clinical input including advice & guidance. Provide safe, evidenced-based, cost effective and individualised patient care To work within the practice guidelines, policies and protocols Engage in practice and PCN meetings and contribute to service development Support education and supervision of junior staff, including GP registrars and trainees Participate in audits, quality improvement, and clinical governance activity In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Clinical sessions and administration workload will be dependent on practice GP career pathway structure
