Summary

Introduction

I’m a non-verbal, full time wheelchair user. I’m sociable and love music, dancing, theatre and stories. I need help keeping me entertained, doing my exercises, eating my dinner, getting out and about, going to activities, showering and getting ready for bed. You will be helping me with all my personal care needs.

Duties

Monday – 3.30pm-8pm – Meet me from the school bus, get me a snack, help with my exercises including using my walking machine, reading stories, getting out for a walk, heating up meal, helping me eat, drink and take my medicine, shower and hair wash, getting ready for and into bed.
Tuesday 3.30pm-9pm – either all of the above or take me out for food and drama activity at local arts centre and help me to take part in the activities and interact with other participants. Get ready for bed afterwards.
Thursday or Friday 3.30pm-8pm (potentially until 10pm on some occasions) – as Monday but may also include accompanying me to an evening activity (disco/social evening/cinema)
Weekends – either 10am-6pm, 12-10pm or 2pm-midnight as agreed in advance. Help me with activities at home e.g. walking machine, books, games or out and about in the community. Possibly taking the bus to the shops/cinema or going out for a walk/to a local café. Preparing and eating meals, taking medication, showering and dressing, checking on me regularly when sleeping.

Hours

4.5 hours 3 weekdays afternoons/evenings

8-10 hours fortnightly on Sat or Sun

Extra hours available on an ad-hoc basis

Rate: £17.84 per hour

Essential Requirements

Experience working with young adults with physical and learning difficulties (particularly in communicating with non-verbal individuals)

Desired Experience

Manual handling/hoist training

Epilepsy training

First Aid

Full, clean driving license

AAC/Eyegaze experience would be advantageous
