Summary
Job Title: Healthcare Assistant (Maternity Cover) Location: Staveleigh Medical Centre Duration: Fixed-term 6 months (maternity cover) Working Hours: Approximately 16 hours per week over 2 days Reports To: Practice Nurse / Practice Manager Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our supportive team on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover. The postholder will assist in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care and undertake clinical tasks as directed by the nursing and clinical team.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties Undertake clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, urinalysis, and long-term condition monitoring and checks (including diabetes and hypertension). Conduct NHS Health Checks and assist with chronic disease monitoring. Support vaccination and immunisation programmes as required. Provide general health promotion advice, under supervision, including lifestyle support. Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment. Ensure infection control procedures are followed at all times. Administrative and Organisational Duties Accurately record patient information and procedures using the clinical system (TPP SystmOne). Manage stock levels and inform appropriate staff of any shortages. Ensure specimens are correctly labelled and handled, ready for transportation. Support recall and follow-up processes for health screening or chronic disease management. Teamwork Work effectively with all members of the clinical and non-clinical team. Attend team meetings, training sessions, and contribute to ongoing service improvements. Maintain a flexible approach to cover the needs of the practice.
