Post Title
First Team Physical Performance Coach (Part-time and Fixed Term Internship).

Department/Location
Physical Performance, the Canalside Training Centre.

Reports To
Head of Medical and Physical Performance.

Purpose of the Role
The post holder will join our multi-disciplinary team ahead of the 2025/26 season and contribute to delivering and monitoring physical performance services to our First Team players. The post holder is required to have a strong desire to work within elite sport, in a professional football club environment, while showing an enthusiasm to learn and maintain professional standards at all times.

Key Performance Indicators

• Significant contribution to a Sports Science Research project (subject area to be confirmed).

• Effective assistance with daily sports science monitoring practices across various disciplines (GPS, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition).

• Effective assistance to the Senior Fitness Coach with daily on-field training tasks to ensure the flow of training sessions.

Role Specific Responsibilities

The post holder will be required to:

• Assist in the delivery of gym-based and field-based provision where appropriate.

• Assist the Senior Fitness Coach on-field with daily training tasks to ensure the flow of training sessions.

• Support the Senior Strength and Conditioning Coaches with daily squad preparation, gym and rehabilitation sessions.

• Assist in managing testing databases and reporting systems.

• Assist in delivering all testing and screening strategies.

• Manage gym areas in conjunction with other members of the First Team Physical Performance staff team to ensure an appropriate and safe working environment.

• Assist in the daily education of physical performance.

• Ensure all sessions and targets are recorded correctly using in-house systems, enabling individual programmes to be monitored, discussed, and developed as necessary.

• Assist in writing and continually updating the department’s standard operating procedures.

• Execute additional tasks as required to meet the Club’s changing priorities.

This job description is not intended to be exhaustive, and the post holder is required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Head of Medical and Physical Performance, and/or any other Senior Leader within the Club.

It is anticipated that the role of First Team Physical Performance Coach (Internship) will involve the supervision of and work with children and young people or vulnerable adults; therefore, the post holder will require an Enhanced Criminal Records Check (CRC) through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and clearance for work in football by the FA.

Applicants must disclose all previous convictions including spent convictions in accordance with the associated legislation. The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. The post holder will also be required to undergo Safeguarding Training, to be agreed with the Senior Safeguarding Manager.
