Male or Female Personal Care Assistant / Support Worker required to assist a person with complex autism living in the East Kilbride area.
You would be required to provide one to one care and assistance within the time you spend in the community including attending to personal care and participation in social activities. Your duties would involve assisting with tasks such as:
· Attending to all personal care needs (toileting including bowel movements)
· Ordering snacks or lunch, handling money
· All social activities from swing park, swimming, Library, arts.
· Fully mobile but no sense of danger, predominantly non-verbal
Driver essential and you will be required to use your own vehicle – mileage allowance will be paid.
The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is vulnerable and requires support in terms of being their voice and in a lot of cases hand over hand until confident in a task or place when trying new things.
Must take a proactive and innovative approach to support and encourage individual to be involved in activities suited to their needs, assist to build confidence, aid development, and enhance time spent in the community.
Favourite activities are swimming, outdoors-parks/Forests-getting muddy, music, art, horse riding, sensory experiences, socialising, cafes.
Experience of working with complex autism is essential, training will be given however a foundation of autism and working in bases, schools, community groups etc would be an appropriate experience level.
The most important qualities are a warm and friendly nature, patience and a desire to work within a caring role, elements of fun and humour is desirable as well as being able to participate or support in physical activities.
Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Hours of Work (with a degree of flexibility)
Recruiting for 1 position
Guaranteed permanent position of 5 hrs per week
Days and times:
Saturday – 12pm -5pm
This day can be flexible for e.g. changed to Sunday or in School holidays if suitable potentially a weekday.
