This isn’t just a tick-box housing job. As a Sheltered Retirement Housing Scheme Manager, you’re at the heart of where the organisation makes the biggest impact – in people’s homes and communities.
The organisations’ schemes support older and vulnerable residents to live independently with dignity, and you’ll make that happen by keeping the service safe, connected, and genuinely welcoming. As the Sheltered Retirement Housing Scheme Manager, you're the familiar face people trust – the one who notices when something’s off, listens without judgment, and keeps everything ticking along behind the scenes with quiet confidence.
It’s about creating spaces that feel like home, building relationships that matter, and doing it all with warmth, empathy, and a no-nonsense approach.
DUTIES
Your duties as a Sheltered Retirement Housing Scheme Manager will include:
• Health & Safety and Fire Checks – You’ll stay on top of compliance with tight records and zero chasing
• Viewings, Sign-ups and Move-ins – Supporting new residents from day one so they feel clued-up and confident
• Managing Move-outs – Working with lettings and contractors to minimise voids and maintain standards
• Resident Support – Using tools like ILPs and risk assessments to tailor the right support, with dignity at the core
• Safeguarding – You’ll know what to look for and take swift, appropriate action when needed
• Community Life – Supporting residents to shape their own social lives and wellbeing activities
• ASB – Handling any issues firmly but fairly, supporting those affected and setting clear expectations
• DBS Compliance – Keeping accurate records for everyone entering the scheme, from contractors to volunteers
• Partnership Working – Liaising with care providers, GPs, social services, families – keeping it all joined up
• Money Matters – Helping residents access the benefits they’re entitled to and avoid arrears
• Being the ‘go-to’ – You’ll be the first port of call for residents, families, and professionals alike
You’ll love this job if you…
• Genuinely enjoy working with people and building trust
• Are well organised and self-efficient
• Can spot when someone needs help – and act early
• Stay cool under pressure and take a pragmatic, professional approach
• Can have honest conversations while staying kind and clear
• Care deeply about helping older and vulnerable people live well
What the organisation is looking for:
Must-haves
• Experience in a customer-facing role
• Confidence with health and safety basics
• Understanding of the needs of older or vulnerable people
• Background in housing / care / or support work
• Solid record-keeping and confidentiality standards
Nice-to-haves (or willingness to work towards)
• Full UK driving licence
• Level 3 in Housing or Supported Housing
• Supervisory/management training
• Health & Safety qualification
• Knowledge of welfare benefits like Housing Benefit or UC
The organisation recognises that some people will only apply for a role if they meet 100% of role requirements. If this sounds like you, they’d still encourage you to apply should you not feel you meet the criteria 100%.
