Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team of Physician Associates providing care for patients admitted to Trauma and Orthopaedics.
The post holder will be required to provide assistance to the Consultant Surgeons and Specialist Registrars in the provision of high quality care within the department. They will be expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and to perform duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge, working within operating theatres, wards and outpatient clinics.
The role involves being second on call with the registrars over night and weekend duties in a 1-9 week rota basis
The post holder will be trained to assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment. They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.
They will be supervised by a designated consultant of the week and will also have individual mentors to overview their career development.
It is expected that the Physician Associates will become involved in the activities of the department, including review of inpatients, assessment of acute admissions, audits, practical procedures, theatres and outpatient clinics. It would be envisaged that the role would be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee’s interests.
Physician Associates represent the department at local and external meetings as appropriate. It is not expected that the Physician Associates will have had experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
