About the role

An exciting position has become available to join Rochdale Borough Council’s Area SENCO Team. We are a committed team that supports all maintained, private, voluntary and independent sector Early Years settings.

The Area SENCO Team provide advice and guidance to early years practitioners in meeting the underlying principles of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice to promote every child receiving the right support at the right time. This includes the identification, early intervention and appropriate provision for individual children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

We offer support to settings individually and also in wider groups through training opportunities and SENCO clusters.

About you

We are looking for a knowledgeable early years practitioner with a wealth of experience in working with children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and the enthusiasm to train, support and positively challenge early years practitioners to promote the best possible outcomes for every child.

You will:

  • Provide day to day advice and guidance to early years settings to ensure they have regard for the underlying principles of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code or Practice.
  • Support early years settings in making high quality provision focusing on inclusive practices and removing barriers to play and learning.
  • Provide advice and support to early years settings about approaches to identification, assessment and intervention as part of the graduated response.
  • Support the development and delivery of training both for individual settings and on a wider basis to promote early years practitioners in being knowledgeable and skilled in meeting the individual needs of children with SEND.
  • Promote effective and collaborative work with parents of children in the early years promoting the voice of the child and their parents.
  • Provide advice and guidance to early years settings on the graduated approach to promote children with SEND receiving the right support at the right time.
  • Strengthen the links between settings, parents, schools, social care and health services.
  • Develop links with school-based SENCOs to support smooth transitions to school nursery and reception classes
  • Work as member of the SENCO Team, contributing to the development of its objectives.
  • Work in partnership with other professionals working in Early Years and SEND,
  • Create and develop links with other related services and agencies and the voluntary sector.
