The MCh and MMed programmes offer international clinicians with higher postgraduate qualifications to develop an evidence-based approach to clinical practice. Students study specialist aspects of evidence-based practice in surgery and medicine including the application of advanced knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, microbiology and imaging; also clinical research with a focus on research design, ethics and governance, critical appraisal, writing research proposals and systematic review protocols. As part of this scheme, doctors will be required to work under direct supervision of consultants at their respective NHS Trusts or Institutions participating in the MCh or MMedrotations

Duties of Post – provided as an example (not exhaustive)
· Attendance at outpatientclinics
· Attendance at ward rounds, operating theatresessions
· Day to day management of in patients under the team’scare
· Checking pathology and radiology reports ensuring that appropriate action istaken
· Informing therapy staff as necessary regarding the treatment of inpatients.
· Collecting and presenting data for clinical auditmeetings.
· Signing death certificates and personally notifying deaths to HM Coroner where necessary and after discussion with the Consultant ifrequired
· Keep medical records and electronic records in the manner prescribed by theTrust
· Cover for colleagues in the Department during periods of leave. Deputise as required for absentcolleagues.
· Participation in out of hours working (where required and subject to Host Trust requirements)
These duties apply in common to both NHS and private patients.
Emergencies and Unforeseen Circumstances

Annual Leave
All full timeInternationalTrainingFellowswillbeentitledto 27daysleaveper yearplus8Bank Holidays.Allapplicationsfor annualleave, shouldbeapprovedby theConsultantsandsubmittedon theappropriateformtothe appropriate personandmanaged by theHost Trust,underlocalpolicy andprocedure.
Study Leave
All International Training Fellows will be entitled to 10 days Study Leave per year. All applications for Study Leave and any associated expenses should be submitted by Application to the appropriate person and managed by the Host Trust, under local policy and procedure.
Responsibility for Teaching
Your employment as an International Training Fellow requires you to actively progress in your training and requires your employer to support the established Programme education curriculum
Work Circumstances & on-call
The standard full-time working week is 40 hours per week, your actual hours will be no more than 48 hours per week on average and will be as set out in your job plan. If you are required to participate in an out of hours working pattern you will receive the appropriate pay premia in line with the Locally Employed Doctors Terms and Conditions.
