The Migration and Borders Group is responsible for policy, legislation and reform of the immigration systems and acts as a centre for excellence to deliver international interventions and engagement. This work touches many of the most high-profile policy areas for the Home Office, including asylum, migration, nationality, extradition, citizens’ rights, borders and international criminality.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the PMO function in the Migration and Borders Technology Portfolio (MBTP).

The role of the Senior Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project, product and/or platform objectives. This post will support the G7 PMO Manager through the operation of project/product management processes to support our goal to provide outstanding services and work towards delivering critical projects and/or products in MBTP.

The Project Support Officer will cover Migration and Borders Technology Portfolio, one of the largest technology portfolios in government with an annual spend of £740 million, a range of Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP) programmes and several government Top 75 projects and services.

This role is essential in supporting Migration and Borders Technology Portfolio team in delivering digital services across the Portfolio and beyond. You will be someone who is interested in technology, and an advocate for change. You will have experience in communications and stakeholder engagement, and will have good communication skills, with the ability to translate technical messages into easily digestible communications for a wide range of stakeholders.

The work is varied and no two days are the same. On any given day you may be juggling competing and varied demands, so you will be able to think quickly to grasp issues and be confident in managing reactive asks where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring systems are in place to enable effective planning and scheduling.
  • Managing delivery controls, reporting delivery status to stakeholders, developing performance reports.
  • Ensuring organisational tasks are carried out efficiently.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading potential risk areas, working with risk manager and escalating as appropriate.

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake any of the above tasks or additional tasks not listed above, within the remit of their grade, to support the team.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, compressed hours are available.
